When did Christianity become more about what the church has done rather than what Christ has done?
Here is a question. When did what Christianity become more about what the church has done rather than what Christ has done? Christianity is all about Jesus Christ and his ministry. What He did for us and what he taught. Now can someone tell me why people are more concerned with what the Church has done rather than the man who Christianity is all about? I will admit there are people in the Christian churches that are idiots and take things to a place that Christ would never gone to. Because there are bad priests and etc. does that make Christianity as a whole bad? Would you hate basketball because there a basketball player that has done something wrong?
The church is the Body of Christ. We are His arms and hands through which God’s will and good deeds are done. It is by His will that we love God and love one another. So you can’t have one without the other. You cannot have a church (Body of Christ) without Christ.
HOWEVER, because people are flawed and imperfect we don’t always follow His will. But because we are human and flawed we like to focus on the imperfections of those we feel should be more perfect – especially those who are held to a higher moral standard. Unfortunately it is human nature.
Randomgiggle gave you correct info, But she did not quiet answer your Q, When Christianity became more about the church and less about Jesus, is after satan himself had figured out how to get himself in the church. Let me go back to the start of the Church. We see in the new testament that the followers were willing to be burned, sawn into and died tortuous deaths before they would denounce Jesus. WHY because He was more real to them than the life they lived in the flesh. It ws not fairy tale. These people had power, they had HIS Power in them because they understood that it was His spirit that was in them (i.e. the Holy Spirit) Nero had to stop killing Christians in the arena because the convictions they had were so powerful as many as 7 Roman citizens would run out of the stands and proclaim Jesus, knowing that they would died within minutes. (that is power eliminating from them) These people raise the dead, healed the sick and signs followed them because they had faith in HIM.
So what satan could not beat them, so he joined them. Not in faith, but in religion. He got his men to start a church/churches and doctrine became the focus not Jesus not knowing Him, not learn of Him, but about him. I could read lot of info on the president and tell anyone anything they want to know about a pres, but i could not walk up to the white house and say ???? old buddy i want you to do such & such for me. But If you know Jesus as the early church did, then you can ask HIm at any time, Hey Jesus can you heal so & so. and it was done for you. Why because you knew Him not about Him. You had not waisted your time learning doctrine. Doctrine that has twisted truth and left the power of the gospel untapped.
So to get back to your Q when did it happen? About 300 A.D
